WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A middle-income family can expect to spend $291,570 including inflation to raise a child born in 2008 to adulthood, the government estimated on Tuesday, up slightly from the estimate made a year ago.

The estimate covers food, shelter and other necessities for a child to age 18, said the annual report by the Agriculture Department. The figure does not include the cost of childbirth or college.

Housing accounts for one-third of expenditures on children. Food accounts for 16 percent, the same as child care and education, said the Expenditures on Children by Families report.

Last year, the USDA estimated it would cost $269,040 to raise a child born in 2007 to age 18, including inflation. The USDA has made the estimates since 1960, when the estimated cost was $25,300. The department said it planned to have an updated "Cost of Raising a Child Calculator" on the Internet soon.

Annual spending for child-rearing ranges from $11,610 to $13,480 for a middle-income, two-parent family, the USDA said. Families with lower incomes will spend less and families with higher incomes spend more. Expenses are highest in cities in the U.S. Northeast, followed by urban areas of the West and Midwest. They are lowest in rural America and cities in the South.

2 eggs
8 oz Cool Whip thawed. (ain't nut'n 2 it w/the coleman miss'n.)
1.5 cup crushed chocolate wafers
1 cup semi-sweet choco chips
.5 mini marshmellos
.25 chop'd nuts

Beat eggs in large bowl. Fold'n Cool Whip, crumbs and .75 chips until blended. Spread in greased 2 qt microwave round at least 2 inches deep.

Then there's politically ambitious Chris Thieneman, who may have learned something about football while playing in Saskatchewan, Sacramento and Birmingham, but who obviously needs to read the rule book for public issue campaigns such as this. Knowing full well that their charges wouldn't be taken up before Tuesday, he and his buddies complained to the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance about disclaimers they said should have been printed on Libraries Yes! yard signs and brochures. They even complained about the yard signs congratulating kids who read at least 10 books last summer — signs that say A Library Champion Lives Here. They called these nice words of encouragement for young readers "barely disguised political advocacy."

It's possible to debate seriously the differences between the plan that's on the ballot and Mr. Heiner's suggested approach. However, Mr. Thieneman's team should be called for some combination of false start, delay of game, unsportsmanlike conduct and pass interference.

Next time you have a spare year available in your life you to could watch "at least" a million dollars being dumped by staff and anyone they can prod into helping. New clothing with tags, fresh donated food, shoes, boots and bags, suits, coats, household goods, toys, books and office supplies. You name it they dump it. This is not a couple of dinners or a few article's of clothing or even a few dollars. This is nothing but pure waste of community donations your time and your money. Where faith based funding cums in we could only guess. They refuse to acknowledge they receive it.

What is even more amazing is the whin'n and moaning that follows for more after they have junked it. These are people who poorly manage their own resources and should not be put in charge of others. What is up with these "bah-humbug" employers, companies and corporations requesting that individuals should pay for drug tests, police reports and credit checks? You are the ones using it you pay. For eight years (1999-2006), the National Coalition for the Homeless (NCH) has tracked a frightening increase in crimes targeting homeless people perpetrated by young people and severely disturbed individuals. These are well-documented violent attacks on a vulnerable population that result in injury and in many cases death.

NASHVILLE, Dec. 26 -- Nashville police and residents were searching Monday for clues to the Christmas Day theft of a cinnamon bun that found unlikely fame for its resemblance to the late Mother Teresa's face.

The bun has been a draw for curious tourists since it was preserved and put on display in a glass case at the shop where it was discovered by a customer in 1996.

"What I can't figure out is why anyone would steal it," said the shop's owner, Bob Bernstein. "They can't sell it on eBay, it's not fit to eat, there was no ransom note, and the police put its value at only $25 on their report."

Bernstein said the thief broke into the coffeehouse at 6 a.m. Sunday and smashed the glass case containing the bun, ignoring cash nearby.

Before her death in 1997, Nobel Peace Prize winner Mother Teresa wrote to Bernstein asking that her name not be used commercially. The pastry became known simply as the "Nun Bun."
